Our Heritage
Walkers Yachts traces its esteemed heritage back to 1854, when John Walker established Walkers and Sons in Sri Lanka. Initially focused on engineering and machinery for the burgeoning coffee industry, the company rapidly grew under John’s leadership and innovative spirit. By the late 19th century, Walkers and Sons had expanded into marine engineering, constructing the Colombo Iron Works and establishing itself as a crucial player in Sri Lanka’s maritime services.
During World War II, the company demonstrated exceptional prowess in marine engineering, repairing and refitting over 2,000 naval and merchant vessels, including notable ships such as the HMS Eagle and RMS Queen Elizabeth. This period solidified Walkers and Sons’;
reputation for engineering excellence and adaptability.
Today, Walkers Yachts builds on this rich legacy, having evolved into a modern, high-tech yacht manufacturing company. We combine our historical expertise with cutting-edge technology to design and construct GRP and aluminium yachts that meet the highest standards of innovation, sustainability, and luxury.
